Indications for use

Adefovir is used to treat chronic (long-term) hepatitis B infection (a liver tumor caused by a virus) in patients who have symptoms of the disease. Adefovir in the class of drugs called nucleotide analogs. It works by reducing the amount of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the body. Adefovir does not cure hepatitis B and cannot prevent complications of chronic hepatitis, such as liver cirrhosis or liver or liver cancer. Adefovir cannot prevent the spread of hepatitis to other people.[hide] Adefovir Side effects, Overdose, Indications for use [/hide]

 

Precautionary measures

Before taking adefovir, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to adefovir or any other medicines. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Do not forget to mention the medications listed in the Important section warning and probenecid. Your doctor may need to change the dose of your medicine or carefully monitor you for side effects. Do not take any other medicines while you are taking adefovir unless your doctor has told you that you should. if you resort to surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking adefovir.[hide] Adefovir Side effects, Overdose, Indications for use [/hide]

 

Overdose

In case of an overdose, call the local poison control center 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call the local emergency services at 911. Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • stomach upset
  • discomfort in the stomach
  • vomiting
  • gas
  • free bowel movements
  • loss of appetite

 

Side effects

Adefovir may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • weakness
  • headache
  • diarrhea
  • gas
  • stomach upset
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny nose

 

Some side effects can be severe. If you experience this symptom or any of the listed in the Important Warning section, call your doctor:

 

  • rash

Adefovir may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

If you missed the reception

If you remember a missed dose per day that you should have taken it, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if you do not remember the missed dose until the next day, skip the missed dose and continue the dosing schedule. Do not take more than one dose of adefovir on the same day. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.[hide] Adefovir Side effects, Overdose, Indications for use [/hide]

 

Additional Information

Do not let anyone take medicine. Ask your pharmacist for any questions you have about refueling your prescription. It is important for you to keep a written list of all prescription and non-prescription (over-the-counter) medicines that you take, as well as any foods such as vitamins, minerals, or other food additives. You must bring this list with you every time you visit a doctor or if you go to the hospital. This is also an important information for carrying out with you in case of an emergency.
